I'm an American cosplayer. I like film, anime, Minecraft, Titanic history, and beer.
This year, I completed cosplays of Spike Spiegel (Cowboy Bebop) and Newt Scamander (Fantastic Beasts). I'm hoping to upload photos of Newt in a couple weeks.
Here's my current list of planned cosplays for the upcoming year or so (2017+):
-Colonel Roy Mustang (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)–FMAB was one of the first anime I watched and remains one of my favorite shows of all time. Col. Mustang was one of my favorite characters in the show, and I love the uniforms. I've seen very few cosplays that I thought truly got them 'right' and looked like actual uniforms rather than costumes, and I'd really like to take on the challenge myself. I also really want to make a badass WWI/WWII-style military greatcoat, and this is the perfect excuse (for the black coat he frequently drapes over his shoulders). I'll be doing it in a similar style to my Dieselpunk Mako, adding/changing certain details to make it look like it really fits in with the real world. There's been an image of Roy's uniform from the upcoming live action movie released, so I might take some minor influences from that (although it still looks a bit costumey for my tastes so I certainly won't be copying it exactly).
-Steve Rogers, Bucky rescue outfit (Captain America: The First Avenger)–Cap is one of my favorite fictional characters ever so I really want to cosplay him, but most of his uniforms are a bit advanced for me to make (my favorite is his WWII field uniform), and I don't really want to have to wear a tight mask around the cons, so I'm gonna do my own take on his USO/Bucky rescue outfit. For the most part I'll try to make is as screen accurate as I can without going over budget, but I'll be doing my own take on a couple parts (mainly the jacket and possibly the pants). I'm gonna also see if I can get my friend to cosplay Bucky in the simple outfit he wears in that scene.
-Aldo Raine (Inglourious Basterds)–It's one of my favorite movies, and I always love the costume design in Tarantino's films. I really like the rugged look Aldo has, and I already have almost everything I'd need for him (I got super lucky at a thrift store and found the exact sweater he wears, ad I just bought a coat that's pretty close), so basically I'll just be making or buying a couple accessories. I'm also strongly considering using a fake mustache so I (hopefully) don't look like a child molester.
-Jonathan Byers (Stranger Things)-My friends and I all loved the show so I'm trying to organize a group cosplay for Youmacon, since season 2 comes out like 3 days before. It'll be really easy to put together, I'll just be thrifting some shirts, getting a denim jacket (which I've been planning to buy anyway), and making or buying at least one prop (either the camera or probably the spiked bat).
-Han Solo (Star Wars Episode V)–Han Solo is another one of my all-time favorite characters, and possibly my number one childhood hero, so I feel like I have to cosplay him at some point, and he'd be easier than any of the other Star Wars cosplays I'm considering. While I love his classic ANH look, the outfit he wears in ESB is probably my favorite of his, and I don't see it cosplayed as much, so it's the one I'll be basing mine off of. I'll probably take a few aspects from other outfits though; in particular, I'll be using the blaster from ANH, since I was able to buy a very accurate toy of it to customize. At this point, while I'm planning to make at least most of the stuff for this cosplay this year, I don't think I'll be wearing it to a con until next year.
-Naked Snake/Big Boss (Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater)–One of my friends commented that I look like Snake and should cosplay him, so out of curiosity I decided to check out the series and am really enjoying it so far. This will be pretty simple since I'll only have to make a couple small things, but at this point I don't think I'll be able to work him in this year largely due to money concerns.
At some point this or next year I also want to put together a couple simpler cosplays that I'll use for Halloween parties and Sundays at cons (or just cons when I don't want to be wearing anything uncomfortable or carrying around too many accessories): The Driver (Ryan Gosling) from Drive, Jack Dawson from Titanic, and Rick Deckard from Blade Runner. Sometime I also really want to make a cosplay of Charles Lightoller, the Second Officer on the Titanic, but I don't know what sort of event would be best for a costume like that.
I'm also planning to make several non-cosplay coats and jackets when I have the time/money to fit them in around cosplay projects. I just finished making one based on Sherlock's Belstaff coat, and I'd like to make a green moleskin military coat and a couple things based on some of my favorite pieces of Daniel Craig's Bond wardrobe later on.
Other cosplays I'd like to get around to in the further future:
-Malcolm Reynolds (Firefly/Serenity)–I'd love to re-do the first cosplay I ever did now that I can make/buy much better, more accurate stuff. I should be able to get an accurate pistol, and I'm hoping to make a new Browncoat (I don't really want to use the one I already made, since it doesn't fit very well and is just not at all up to my current standards), or perhaps buy an official one if I can afford it. Every other piece of the costume would be upgraded as well.
-Tommy Shelby (Peaky Blinders)–I love his vintage herringbone suit and his long black overcoat with the bright red lining. I've been planning to make a coat like that for a while (I actually did make something inspired by it over last summer, but it didn't turn out very well and isn't suitable for wearing much, certainly not with my everyday wardrobe), and I think it'd be cool to make a suit and have something I could wear to formal/vintage wear events (not that I've ever been to any, but I've always wanted to). Aside from those parts it'd be a pretty simple costume, although I don't think I'll be getting the haircut... that's not a style I could pull off. At least I'll have the hat to partially hide my inaccurate hair.
-Arno Dorian 2.0 (Assassin's Creed Unity)–I've gotten a lot better at sewing and patternmaking since I did my Arno cosplay, and I'm now very unsatisfied with many parts of it, so I want to more or less completely remake it. Most significantly, I'll remake the coat, with a more accurate and much better fitting pattern, and using wool and real leather, and a satin lining. I'll also remake the red shirt, using moleskin fabric and a slightly improved pattern (the cream vest is more or less good enough I think, although I will add a couple small details to it). I'll get some grey wool pants and change the hemline to resemble the knickers Arno wears, and I'll wear proper boots rather than the crappy boot covers I made. I'll also have a better utility belt, and a cooler gun and a sword that's not too huge and heavy to comfortably carry around at cons.
-Jacob Frye, alternate outfit (Assassin's Creed Syndicate)–I'm a huge fan of George Westhouse's outfit, particularly the variant worn by the unnamed protagonist in the 'Assassin's Creed Victory' screenshots that were leaked about a year before the game's release, so some time I'd love to make another outfit for Jacob based strongly on that outfit, but probably with a couple added personal touches.
-General Hux (Star Wars Episode VII)–Between his badass, insanely evil looking uniform, his epic rousing speech, and the fact that I would probably look a fair bit like him if I styled my hair right and shaved, I absolutely have to cosplay him at some point.
-Custom WWI/II-era Assassin (Assassin's Creed)–I've been thinking about various ways I'd like to go about this. Currently I'm envisioning him wearing a big suede shearling coat (similar to Bane's and especially Elder Maxson's) over a mix of military and civilian garments, similar in style to the outfits of the Inglourious Basterds. His iconic hood will probably be part of a garment he wears under the coat, or possibly part of a scarf sort of thing. He'll be armed with various period weapons, (probably an M1 rifle, a trench knife, a custom hidden blade, and a Mauser C-96).
Cosplays I'd like to do in the more distant future:
-Mad Max 3.0 (Mad Max film series)
-Daryl Dixon (The Walking Dead)
-Improved/post-apocalyptic-styled Vash the Stampede
-Ezio Auditore de Firenze (Assassin's Creed II)
-Edward Kenway (Assassin's Creed IV)
-Cassian Andor (Rogue One)
